The Ancient Site of Bhangarh 

The ancient township of Bhangarh was founded in the later half of 16 th centuary A.D. by Raja Bhagwant Das, the then ruler of Amber and later on it was made capital of Madho Singh, brother of Raja Mansingh. Madho Singh was Diwan in the court of Mughal Emperor Akbar (A.D. 1556-1605).

The remains at Bhangarh consist of fort walls, gateways, markets, havelis, temples, royal palace, chhatris, tomb etc. Important temples are Gopinath ji, Someshwar, Keshav Rai and Mangla Devi, all in Nagara style of temple architecture. The royal palace is said to have seven storeys but now only four storeys remain. Whole township was protected by three successive fortifications. The outermost fortification is provided with five gateways from north to south Ajmeri, Lahori, Hanuman Phool, Bari and Delhi gate.

The Brighter Side of Bhangarh

Bhangarh fort situated at the edge of  ‘Sariska National Park’ has become a tourist place. The fort is established in the lap of mountain. The beautiful garden, temples, valley, pool etc. attract tourists and ruins of the fort, markets and havelis move them into the niches of their comfy past.

Bhangarh’s Haunted Darkness

Bhangarh is popular as one of the most haunted places of India. At night it’s calm air is charged with sinister heaviness. Every moment you realize that your movements are watched by someone. There is a board put up by Archeological Survey of India with caution the visitors are not allowed within the fortification after sunset. there are two legends regarding its hauntedness.

A Place Swallowed by Shadow

According to first legend, Madho Singh raised the fort after obtaining permission from an ascetic ‘Baba Bala Nath’ who lived there, with one condition that the shadow of the fort must never fall upon the abode of the ascetic. But fate had another plans, one of the ambitious successors of Madho singh added fortification vertically, thereby the inauspicious shadow of the fort fell upon the abode of the ascetic and engulfed the whole township. According to the prophecy Bhangarh became haunted.

The Beauty and the Tantric

Second legend behind the Bhangarh haunted is more popular than the first one. According to it a local black magician (Tantric) named ‘Sewda’ fell in love with Princess Ratnavati who was very beautiful. Once he tried to bewitch a cosmetic she was supposed to use, to make her fall in love with him. The Princess smelled the bewitched cosmetic and foiled the conspiracy of tantric by threw away the cosmetic over the tantric. It crushed the Tantric to death.Before his last breath he cursed the entire landscape of Bhangarh that no one will be able to live there in peace. The entire township and area around the Bhangarh fort is haunted since.

Is Bhangarh Really Haunted or Not?

Many people have raised the question that is Bhangarh really haunted ? To find the answer many people stayed there at night. Recently Z News team also stayed there with their machinery. The team with experts and other people who stayed with their team declared that we felt that someone was watching our activities and trying to realize us the entity of itself.

By the way there are many temples in the countryard of Bhangarh, but remember there is no idol of any god in any temples. the idols have been removed at the time of downfall of Bhangarh… and  the place deities have been escaped from, may be there is something……
