Big Bawari Bhandarej Dausa

This three storeyed Bawari/Stepwell (also spelled as Baori) in Rajput Mughal style of architecture was built in V.S. 1789 (1732 A.D.) keeping in mind the necessity of water for the use of public. This artistic rectangular bawari has ornamental dome shaped pillars, artistic Chhataris, arish work on walls, attractive finials, carved friezes and awnings. Bawari with steps has rooms on all four sides for offering prayers and changing clothes and on the backside lies a well. Mainly the stone from local quarries have been used in its construction. This Bawari is an excellent example of later medieval architecture.
